Single Phase Motors

A range of single-phase electric motors with high efficiency and easy connection.

Maximum versatility and adaptability; suitable for various applications, high performance, energy savings.

When three-phase power isn’t available – in workshops, small plants, OEM machinery and light industrial equipment – you still need a motor that starts reliably and runs quietly for years. Under-sizing it stalls the load; over-sizing it wastes energy and money. The single-phase induction motor is built exactly for these applications, delivering dependable performance on standard single-phase power.

OME Motors builds a range of high-efficiency single-phase AC motors that are easy to connect, compact and engineered to last. Available in two capacitor lines and across a range of horsepower ratings, they are designed to match North American requirements and duty cycles.

What is a single-phase induction motor?

A single-phase induction motor runs on single-phase alternating current and is the most widely used single-phase design thanks to its cost-effectiveness. A rotating magnetic field turns the rotor at close to synchronous speed, while the rotor itself runs asynchronously. Built to IEC standards with high-quality materials, OME single-phase motor capacitor offer low noise, minimal vibration, a simple robust structure and easy maintenance.

Capacitor-start motors: OMM1 and OMM2

To start and run correctly, a single-phase motor uses one or more capacitors. OME offers two complementary product lines:

  • OMM1 – a single-capacitor motor: an economical, compact solution for lighter-duty applications;
  • OMM2 – a two-capacitor motor (start + run): a permanently connected run capacitor delivers higher starting torque, better power factor and smoother running under load.

Both lines are built for long service life and easy installation and maintenance.

Available HP ratings

In North America, single-phase motors are specified by horsepower. OME single-phase motors are available across common ratings – typically from 1 HP up to 10 HP – with the right size determined by the driven load (compressor, pump, fan) and the duty cycle. Popular ratings include 1, 2, 3, 5, 7.5 and 10 HP; our team helps match HP, voltage and frame to the application.

115V and 230V wiring

Many OME single-phase motors are dual-voltage and can be wired for 115V or 230V using the connection diagram on the nameplate. For higher horsepower, 230V is generally preferred because it draws lower current. Always follow the motor’s wiring diagram and local electrical code.

Applications

OME single-phase induction motors are ideal for air compressors, pumps, chillers, medical devices and other small machinery that require efficient, quiet operation. They are also used across woodworking, workshops, light industrial plants and pneumatic-tool applications, where compactness and low noise matter.

FAQ – Single-Phase induction motors

What HP ratings are available for single-phase motors?
Single-phase asynchronous motors are typically specified by horsepower in North America. OME single-phase motors are available across common ratings from 1 HP up to 10 HP; the right size depends on the driven load (compressor, pump, fan) and the duty cycle. Our team helps match HP, voltage and frame to the application.
What is the difference between a capacitor-start and a capacitor-start/capacitor-run motor?
A capacitor-start motor (OMM1) uses a start capacitor for high starting torque, then drops it out at running speed. A capacitor-start/capacitor-run motor (OMM2) keeps a run capacitor permanently in circuit for higher efficiency, better power factor and smoother running under load. OMM2 is preferred where the motor runs for long periods or starts under load.
Can a single-phase motor run on 115V or 230V?
Many single-phase motors are dual-voltage and can be wired for either 115V or 230V using the connection diagram on the nameplate. 230V is generally preferred for higher HP because it draws lower current. Always follow the motor’s wiring diagram and local electrical code.
